Day 3 - November 3

Zabel/Aldag rise to the occasion on night three

The formidable partnership of Erik Zabel and Rolf Aldag has opened the gap on the opposition after the third night of racing in Dortmund. Zabel, winner of the Dortmund Six in 1996 and 2000, and Aldag, winner in 1991, 1995, 1996, 1998, and 2000, now have a 51 point lead over Swiss pair Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart, with Germans Andreas Kappes/Andreas Beikirch and Italians Silvio Martinello/Marco Villa one lap down in third and fourth overall.

The Zabel/Aldag partnership had success in the 1 hour REWE chase, when they lapped the field. This gave them the extra lap they needed to take the lead, but Risi and Betschart will benefit from a bonus lap when they reach 200 points on night 4. The racing in Dortmund looks to be tightly fought over the last three days, but Zabel and Aldag are certainly up to the challenge.
