Hamburger takes first - for new EPO test

According to reports just out in Denmark, CSC World Online rider Bo Hamburger has been the first rider to test positive for EPO using the UCI's new testing procedure. He has been sacked by director Bjarne Riis after the director was informed by the rider, who was told of the positive test on Tuesday.

The test was taken on April 19, the reports state, less than three weeks after the introduction of the new testing procedures. Hamburger raced in Belgium on April 18 at the Fleche Wallonne where he came 28th, in a group that finished 46 seconds behind the winner.

The test showed traces of EPO in the urine - even though his hematocrit level was under the UCI's limit.
