Dion Merk wins Kingswood Festival

The 117 km event turned into a Dutch treat for Holland's national junior squad riders with 17 year-old Dion Merk and Bart Kerkdijk taking first and second ahead of British junior squad rider Richard Sutcliffe. The three were part of a six-man break that escaped over the closing laps of the tough 13.7-mile circuit to finish ahead of three chasers who had escaped from the main pack on the final lap. The bunch sprint for 10th place went to Holland's Erik Verstegen.

National squads from Scotland, Ireland and Britain competed along with two Dutch teams, who placed seven riders in the first 14.
