Australian Graeme Brown has won the final stage of 6th Tour of Japan in sensational fashion, dominating the bunch sprint. Pole Pawel Niedzwiecki (Mroz) kept his green race leader's jersey after donning it on day 1.

66 riders started from Hibiya City in the main part of Tokyo and rode to the Ooi Wharf Circuit (10.5km x 13 laps). It was raining at the start, but gradually improved.

At the beginning of the race, 2 Japanese riders, Kazuya Okazaki (Kinan-Maruishi) and Makoto Iijima (Sumita Ravanello-Pearlizumi), broke away and kept a 1'30 advantage to the peloton which was always controlled by the Mroz Team.

Okazaki passed 2 sprint points (8 laps to go and 5 laps to go) first and got 10 points. If he got final sprint points with 2 laps to go, New Zealander Matthew Yates would lose his yellow sprint jersey. Yates worked on the front of the peloton with the Mroz Team and caught the 2 Japanese riders with 4 laps to go.

The peloton was together on the final lap, and Brown crossed first at the finish line. After the race interview, Brown said that his teammate Allan "Wizard" Davis, who wore a red Mountain jersey, led him out in the final sprint. It was Brown's 3rd victory this year, after he won a stage of the Tour Down Under and a stage of the Giro delle Regioni.

40 year old New Zealander Greame Miller finished in second place, and won the blue points jersey. In somewhat of a surprise, 3 jersey competitions, except the General Classification (the green jersey), were dominated by 2 National Teams, Australia and New Zealand. Moreover Australian Scott Davis got 3rd place in the final GC.

Polish Pawel Niedzwiecki finished the race in the bunch, and easily kept his race leader's jersey. He wore it from the first stage to the last and his Mroz team also won the Team Classification. "I'm very happy to have won the Tour of Japan, Thank you," he said in French at the final ceremony.
