Kroon wins GP Kanton AargauRabobank continue to cement their position as the world's best team after recording a win in the UCI class 1.1 Grand Prix Kanton Aargau in Gippingen, Switzerland. Today's victor was Karsten Kroon, who wore the climber's jersey for a time in last year's Giro, but today outsprinted Telekom's Alberto Elli and Jakob Piil (CSC). The 196 kilometre race was held in cool temperatures, and saw Jan Ullrich take the start. However, the German Tour hope pulled out with 30 kilometres to go, in order to "preserve himself" for the Tour de Romandie that starts on Tuesday. By that stage, the race had already been narrowed down to a 12 man top group that included (in addition to the top three), Daniel Schnider (FdJ), Simone Bertoletti (Lampre), Steven Kleynen (Domo-Farm Frites), Steve Vermaut (Lotto), Lukas Zumsteg (Phonak), Armin Meier (Saeco), Niklas Axelsson (Mercury-Viatel), Andrea Peron (Fassa Bortolo), and Alex Zülle (Coast). These riders had escaped in the early part of the race, and managed a five minute lead at the halfway point. With a good team representation in the break, it turned out that this was enough for them to win the race. The 12 stayed together until the finish, with Kroon getting his first career win in front of Telekom warhorse, Alberto Elli.
