It was a fantastic day for racing in Texas, with sunny skies, temperatures in the 60s and very light winds. The course was a hilly/rolling 10km loop on good roads. The racers were treated to a rolling enclosure and had access to the whole road.The Pro/1/2 race had a great field of local teams (Hybrid Digital, Trek/VW Richardson Bike Mart, and United Youth Sports) along with the Mercy Cycling and Fitness squad. Austin resident and new father Chann McRae (Mercury/Vital) topped this list of riders, ensuring a challenging race for all. The race started slow with a few breaks getting away, with UYS, Trek VW and Mercy chasing them all down. After 50km a small group with a rider from each of the bigger teams got away and built a two minute lead. With 40km to go, a chase group lead by Chann McRae and Mercy cycling team leader Scott Konicki began to eat into the gap and with 20km togo the lead group was caught. On the last lap, McRae was attacking on every uphill with Konicki, Brett Crosby (Hybrid Digital), Jason Sager (United Youth Sports) and Brian Fagan (Altra Cycling) the only ones who could follow. In the finishing sprint and McRae attacked early, with Konicki and Crosby scrambling to catch his wheel. In the final 100 meters, Crosby accelerates and is able to nip McRae at the line by a half a wheel for the win! A very exciting finish!

The women's Pro/1/2/3 race was also decided in the final 1,000 meters. A small, but strong field started the race, including Stacy Liddle (Quattro Assi/Great Earth Vitamins), Alex Colbert (UYS), Andrea Hannos (Hotter 'n' Hell) and two Snow Valley riders Marjan Huizing and Jennifer Scott. A main pack of 10 was all together entering the final 1,000m. Charlott Miller (Champions Racing) lead the sprint out and strung the pack out. Hannos was able to hold the field off for the win, with Colbert second and Huizing taking the last spot on the podium.

Anuthee Huffstetter (UYS) won the Juniors race with a very strong sprint. Mike Davis (Violet Crown) was second and Clayton Peters (Ciclismo) was third. The day ended with a tandem race with 12 kids from the Texas School for the blind. Everyone in this race is a winner and a great time was had by all the riders!
