Scandinavian riders dominated the Spanish Grand Prix Elda Sunday with Finland's Kjell Carlström winning ahead of Swedish team mate Klas Johansson. Another three Scandinavians made it into top 10. Henrik Oldin, fourth, Upsala's Jan Mattsson sixth and Mälarenergi's second Finlander Oscar Stenström in ninth.

Mälarenergi had three riders in a ten man group taking off at ten kilometres. Heinikainen, Modin and Stenström worked hard and the group had at most 3.30 to the peloton. With 60 kilometres to go, Kelme started the chase seriously. The gap at the foot of ther final climb was as little as 20 seconds and then the Mälarenergi riders attacked in the group as well as the peloton to blow the field apart. The Spaniards were exhausted from the chase and the result was a new eight man group with four riders from Mälarenergi. On a minor climb, with 10 kms to go Carlström and Johansson left the others behind.
