RTTC-Rudy Project TT Series - Round 2

LVRC Milton Keynes king of the bowl #7 & 8

June 12, 2001

On another warm sunny night at the Milton Keynes Bowl, the racing was again split into two shorter races, due to the recent spate of concerts rendering the usual circuits out of bounds. The racing on the tight and more technical 'triangular' circuit was fast and furious with a new winner in the ABC category. John Nixon (Nene Valley RT) escaped from a small group near the end of the race and maintained a small but vital lead to the line for victory. Team mate Don Parry was able to play the team card and sprinted in for second place whilst Bob Varney (Team Corley Cycles) riding the last 3 laps on a soft rear tyre, and Joe Quill (Milton Keynes C& TC) could not be separated by the judges for third. In the DEF race, Dave Benger ( Aylesbury CC) was an easy lone winner from a trio of North Bucks RC riders.

After a short delay for both Bob Varney and Bob Thomson (Milton Keynes C &TC) to change rear wheels and mend punctures, the second race of the evening saw Varney attack from the gun and split the race apart. Initially only Parry could get across but the duo were later joined by Nixon to again give the Nene Valley RT a numerical advantage. Team work again paid off for the 'Purple Wave' with Parry escaping on the last lap. Although Varney chased hard, Parry held on with Nixon coming around Varney for second place, in a blanket finish that saw all three riders spread across the width of the finish line only separated by half a bike length. Dave Benger was again unchallenged in the DEF race, riding away in the early stages of the race from his companions before hanging onto the back of the ABC race when they swept him up for a number of laps. Benger is now within sight of overall leadership in the DEF category.

RTTC-Rudy Project TT Series - Round 2

June 16, 2001

British Best All-Rounder time triallist Michael Hutchinson (Team MDT-Giant) had a runaway victory in the second leg of the season-long RTTC-Rudy Project TT series

Hutchinson, winner of the national 50-mile time trial championship last weekend showed he had lost none of his zip when he took just 50:47 to cover the 25-mile course at Stetchworth, near Newmarket, Suffolk, beating Matt Bottrill (Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers) by 2:39 and taking the overall lead in the series.

Scotland's Mark Atkinson and his Team Velo Ecosse-Montpeliers team-mate Duncan Urquart tied for joint third place, the pair finishing with 54:18.

The women's event went to Britain's top woman time triallist Liz Milne (GS Strada-Rudy Project), who had nearly one minute in hand over her nearest rival Theresa Coltman (Leicestershire RC), who holds the overall lead in the women's series.

The junior event was won by Carl Dyson (Team Omega) with 1:00:24.
