Rebellin too strong

World number one Davide Rebellin (Liquigas) overcame a strong field to win the Coppe dell Nazioni (Memorial Fausto Coppi) in Italy today. He beat the favourite Marco Velo (Mercatone Uno) by 47 seconds, with Dario Andriotto (Alexio) finishing third, 52 seconds back.

Ziliute back to form

1998 World Road Champion, Diana Ziliute has returned to her outstanding form of the past, after a slow start to the European road season, and taken the Coppa del Nazioni Time Trial convincingly from A.I.S. Australian cyclist Alison Wright.

A flat 20 km, out-and-back course, with very little wind showed Ziliute's real strength and speed at the moment.

All the major contenders were using this as a hit-out before the Giro d'Italia Femminile starting in 2 weeks, with the last stage on July 15 a 26km flat time trial in the north of Italy.

Today also doubled as the Italian Women's National Championship, with 1997 World Road Champion Allessandra Cappellotto taking out the Italian championship, and finishing 3rd overall, separating A.I.S. Australian's Alison Wright in 2nd and Sara Carrigan in 4th place
