Bondarenko wins the the time trial to PrignanoRussian Denis Bondarenko who rides for the Italian Resine Ragnoli team won the sixth stage of the Giro d'Italia Elite on Sunday. Bondarenko also the recent winner fo the Giro del Veneto stage race, took the tough 16.5 km time trial from Castellarano to Prignano Secchia. The time trial was closely followed by Italian national coach Antonio Fusi who considered it an important test for the World Championships in Lisbon. The course today is very similar to the course in Lisbon. Bondarenko covered the 16.5 km at an average of 36.600 km/h for his fourth win of the year and took him to fourth overall in the general classification. Davide Frattini is still in the race leader's pink jersey even though he finished 1:44 behind the stage winner. It was another good day for the younger Frattini brother. "I have to be happy because the course didn'tsuit me really," Frattini said. "True the classification is tighter now and we'll have to think about our race strategy. Reiss is riding well and is second behind me overall, we'll have to ride in perfect harmony." Winning such a prestigious stage also made Bondarenko happy: "I'm a time trial specialist, I pushed a gear of 53x17 all the way up the climb. It's a good win for me and I hope it's not the last in the Giro." Yesterday's stage winner Giacomo Cariulo laso rode well, finishing second just 11 seconds behind Bondarenko. Tomorrow is a rest day for the Giro with the transfer south to the lower Lazio region. On Tuesday there is probably the toughest stage of the Giro from Anagni to Veroli over 154 km, with the uphill finish at Prato di Campoli at 1140 m.
