Groenendaal wins finaleDutchman Richard Groenendaal finished his World Cup campaign in fine style by winning the last event, the GP de France in Pontchâteau. Groenendaal put 24 seconds into Daniele Pontoni (Ita) and 37 seconds into Petr Dlask (Cze) to claim the win and the overall World Cup trophy. He attacked from the start of the race, and followed Dlask, avoiding a fall that took out Mario de Clercq and Sven Nijs after just 0.5 kilometres. He then moved into the lead on the third lap, with Pontoni the only one to hang on. By half way, he had a clear lead after dropping Pontoni and he continued on to the end. "Today I felt good and when you are strong, it should be shown," he said afterwards. He has won the World Cup once before (in 1998) and is the main favourite for the World Championships in Tabor in two weeks time.
