Racing Series #3 (Final)Alachua, FL, February 10, 2001 The A category race featured the attendance of several new participants. Several Italians and numerous out of town riders raced alongside most of the usual suspects. Three of the top four riders from last week were noticeably absent however, instead entering in collegiate time trials on the same day. The race turned out to be a race of independents as a majority of the participants boasted 1 or less teammates. After a major selection early in the event, 9 riders spent the day looking each other over before a mad dash on the last lap. Lin Baugher took advantage of a group consensus of hesitation coming into the final turn and came away with the win by diving in first. A stiff tailwind catapulted him across the line with a comfortable lead at well over 40 mph. Chuck Jerabek once again utilized his characteristic mercenary form and swept the primes for the lead group. Relative to last week he lost a spot in the finish though, and was bested by one of Florida's most promising Junior riders, Brad Davis, who displayed a fine sprint Ray MacNamara bested the remainder of the faltering field for 10th place For the B grade event, mother nature lent a hand in producing an official friendly finish. The afternoon winds picked up and a moderate amount of effort produced a broken field and small groups. Reed Watson's long trip from Simpsonville, SC proved rewarding after he dashed ahead of the lead break for the victory. After the lead group of five the field came across in bits and pieces with Huan Dihn taking the chase group sprint.
