The team made its debut under the leadership of Eddy Borysewicz and swept both events of the San Diego race weekend. Floyd Landis won the Boulevard Road race while Baden Cooke took the sprint at the UCSD Criterium. In Boulevard, CA, a 65 rider professional field made their season debut in the four lap event under warm and windy conditions. The race is usually one of attrition with only small groups left at the end and this year was no exception. On the third of four laps, a group of 3 riders attacked: Landis, Baden Cooke, and Jamie Drew. Chasing behind was Chris Walker (Net Zero) and Chris Pic (Mercury). The trio of riders soon had over 2 minutes and the windy conditions made it difficult to chase. The 3 riders came to the line together with Landis taking the official victory. On Sunday, the Net Zero team came with the plan to try to disrupt the "Green Wave". However, Landis and Drew led the way and the race eventually came to a sprint, won by Baden Cooke and Rahsaan Bahati, with Greg Mendenilla (Net Zero) taking third. Racing Series #2Alachua, FL, February 3, 2001 The A grade race produced a déjà vu of last week's event. Dan Larson again slipped away victorious in the closing laps, but more interestingly, Paul Brushwood and Cody Ward again stopped the clock in 3rd and 4th respectively. Chuck Jerabek, a veteran and former US national track medalist, also took over his teammate's position from last week and won the chase group sprint to finish 2nd. Jerabek also managed to take a lion's share of the mid-race premiums and rode away with the fattest pocketbook of all the riders. The weather was a little less accommodating than the previous outing with cooler temperatures and cloudy skies, but fortunately, the forecasted rain never materialized. Converse to the A race's carbon copy results, the B grade race developed rather differently to last week's event. There was a lot more aggressive riding and the shattered field crossed the line as several smaller groups. Despite the broken group in this latest edition, Erik Dekold still managed to be in the mix for the win but came up just short to the fast finishing Phil Thompson. In the closing laps Dekold and Thompson had escaped together from a race-long seven rider breakaway that included two other Thompsons, and two of Florida's top women racers, Linda Murphy and Cindy Tompkins.
