Thirty hardy riders braved the smoke and strong wind warning to line up for the fourth criterium of the summer season.
The C grade race was a very even affair with no rider gaining more than 50m on the bunch during the entire duration of the race. Andrew Telford, Mark Owen and Peter Kelly rode strongly during the race.
In a very close finish newcomer Adrian Cooper just pipped Kelly for the win with Owen third.
There was no shortage of riders willing to have a go in the B grade race with Adam Hotchkis and Garry Doughty setting a good pace early on. At third race distance Dennis Fitzgerald launched a sizzling attack, he was quickly joined by Jeff Gray and the two built up a very handy lead.
Just when the break was looking dangerous Mark Davies went to the front for five laps and single handedly brought them back. Hotchkis immediately counter attacked and gained a lead of over 150m.
Joe Pereira, Phil Jones and Raf Moriana all rode strongly but the bunch made little impression on Hotchkis' lead. With three laps to go the gap was down to 50m but Hotchkis kicked again and comfortably took out the event. Davies was second and Jones third.
The A grade race had a quality field. Frank Tortorici tried to stir some action from the bunch with an early attack but no one was wiling to go with him. He rode strongly and was away for many laps, just when it looked like he was going to be caught he dug deep and surged away again. But all to no avail because when the big guns decided to pick up the pace he was mowed down.
The final stage of the race was fought out by Danny Hennessy, Tim Morris, Adam Rourke and Brendan Cato. Dylan Forbes and Josh Wall both put in another good race.
Hennessy showed the others a clean pair of wheels outsprinting Morris and Rourke for a well deserved win.
