Saturday the 1st of December, saw the arrival and use of photo finish equipment at Hillingdon. The first pictures showing a clear victory for Roger Hammond (Collstrop), returning to competition after a post-season operation and showing a clean pair of wheels to second placed Tony Gibb (British Cycling), who recently competed in the Gent amateur 6-day. The early pace and weather took it's toll on the bunch, including a early downpour. Soon a lead group of 8, containing all the favourites, series leader Bill Butterworth (Twickenham CC), Peter Swettenham (Childline) and Stuart Jackson (Sigma Cycles) formed. Swopping turns for the rest of the race, until Roger Hammond put in a strong solo attack, leaving the rest to chase, with Tony Gibb finishing 7 seconds adrift.
