Wiesbaden was the scene of Jens Kemke's final race as a pro, and attracted 60,000 (!!) spectators to watch the action unfold. Showing Kemke's popularity the likes Jan Ullrich, Erik Zabel, Joerg Jak and Udo Boeltsand all raced without any prize inducements. Zemke was personally involved in organising the start list, and whilst not able to hold Ullrich out on the night, Kemke probably had his eye more on the post race celebrations than actually winning the event!
