The 24 year old backed up well from his time trial victory yesterday, to take today's finale from Frenchman Nicolas Vogondy (FdJ) after the two had pulled away from the rest of the field with 18 kilometres to go. "It's important for me, I really wanted to seize this opportunity," Millar said to Darren Tulett/Bloomberg News afterwards. "I feel like my confidence has returned." His win came at the expense of local Laurent Brochard, who had led through the first three stages before crashing on the first corner of the time trial. Brochard wasn't seriously injured, but he lost too much time and dropped to 5th overall. "I'm sorry for Laurent because he's someone who rides with a lot of heart," said Millar, who trailed Brochard by 18 seconds going into the time trial. "I would have won the stage without his fall, but he would have held on to the leader's jersey." However, he stamped his authority on the race today. Millar's wins have been fairly scarce since his impressive performance in the prologue of the Tour de France last year. However, spurring him to success was the arrival of his girlfriend Shari from Australia on Thursday. "She'll be arriving on the day of the time trial, which means I am going to have to go well to show off a bit," Millar wrote on his website, itsmillartime.com on Monday. "Be nice to get a bouquet for her, though that means beating Lance - there are easier ways of getting my girlfriend a bunch of flowers." He saved himself a trip to the florists, though, by beating the Tour de France champion by 45 seconds over the 9 kilometre course. "I haven't had such good legs for a long time, I've been flying this week," said Millar, who finished fourth in this event last year.
