The first of the 31 female competitors, Agnes Kay Eppers (Bol), rolls though the 12 kilometre time check in 22.32.76. The news is that the third last rider to start, Hanka Kupfernagel (Ger) is using a 54x11 on the rolling downhill parcours.

10 riders are through the first time check and it is Canadian Anne Samplonious with the quickest at 19.47.80, leading Marielle Van Scheppingen (Ned) by 5 seconds.

Anne Samplonious goes through the 20 kilometre point in 26.55.93, but Van Scheppingen is now 8 seconds faster. Meanwhile Agnes Kay Eppers posts a time of 39.49.20 for the complete course.

The new standard is set by Norwegian Solrun Flataas, who goes through 12 km in 19.13.93. 20 seconds behind her is rider number 13, Zinaida Stahurskaia (Blr). Marielle Van Scheppingen now holds the overall fastest time at 35.04.85

Flataas is powering through the second time check at 20 km, clocking 26.09.07. However, there are other faster riders behind her.

Norwegian Solrun Flataas posts a time of 34.09.53, well under the standard set by Van Scheppingen. However, now she is being challenged by the top 5 on the road, and Rasa Polikeviciute (Ltu) has gone a little faster at the first time check.

All the riders have gone through the 12 kilometre check now, and it is USA's Mari Holden clearly in front, posting 18.44.14, bettering Longo's 19.00.08 and Kupfernagel's 19.02.28

Holden is holding her 15 second lead at the 20 kilometre point, while Longo approaches the finish. The race will be decided on the last climb.

Longo comes in with 33.18, but Holden holds on with 33.14.62. In third is Rasa Polikeviciute (Ltu) with 34.01. Holden lost a lot of time on the last climb, but she is the now new world champion by just over three seconds.
