Plouray - Plouay, 35.2 kmPreview Start List Route Description Profile Results PreviewThe second of the time trials is the Men's U23 event, and it is also the second longest at 35.2 kilometres. 52 riders are entered with the first setting off at 2:20pm, Plouay time. Due to the downhill nature of the course, fast times are expected and 42 minutes is not out of the question. As is customary in time trials, the fastest riders start last, although there are a few riders down the list worthy of mention: Steve Fogen (Lux), Aaron Olson (USA), Patrik Sinkewitz (Ger), James Perry (RSA) and Petter Renäng (Swe - 2nd behind Andersson in the Swedish Nationals) may be setting the times for the final riders to beat. Most eyes will be on the top 8-10, with riders like Italian TT champ Cristian Caldarelli (Ita), Pawel Zugaj (Pol), or Michael Rogers (Aus), silver in this event last year. Rogers' Mapei teammate of 2001, Fabian Cancellara (Swi) won the junior race for the past two years, and it will be interesting to see whether he will make the transition to the U23 ranks. David Zabriskie (USA) starts second last, and if he can repeat his ride in the GP des Nations he will push favourite Evgeny Petrov (Rus) all the way. Petrov is the Russian U23 and Elite TT champion, and rode quite well in the Olympic time trial to finish 14th. Shortly after the start, there is a 2.5 kilometre climb rising 90 metres, however from then on it is gradually downhill into Plouay with a few undulations. The last of these is with 3 kilometres to go, a 1.5 km drag at 4 percent which should really determine who the strongest rider is. Profile |
