Leon van Bon won the 40th edition of the Ronde van Midden-Zeeland (known locally as the Internationale Delta Profronde). For the whole day there was rain with strong winds, but sunshine as well. The tour began a quarter of an hour late, because some teams were delayed.

At 100 km to go, a group of 30 riders go away including past winners Maarten den Bakker (Rabobank) and Servais Knaven (Farm Frites). Not in this group were favourites Peter van Petegem, Sergei Ivanov, Robbie McEwen (Farm Frites), Steven de Jongh (Rabobank) and Tristan Hoffman (Memory Card).

At 20 km to go a group of 10 riders attacked out of the leading group including Leon van Bon (Rabobank). Van Bon attacked at 7 km to go and finished with with a lead of 33 seconds. Nico Eeckhout (Palmans) won the sprint out of the group of 9 riders in front of Andrej Hauptman (Vini Caldirola).

Van Bon, who leaves Rabobank at the end of the year said afterwards: "Jan Raas (his team manager) lives here round the corner. This is a sort of leaving present." Before the start Van Bon admitted he signed a preliminary contract with Mercury.

In the morning in the publicity tour, 8 people were wounded after a pileup.
