67th Nationale Sluitingprijs - 1.4

Putte-Kapellen, Belgium, October 17, 2000

De Jongh wins Belgian season closer

The Nationale Sluitingprijs is traditionally the last road race of the season for most of the Dutch and Belgian riders. It is held in Putte-Kapellen, on the border between the two countries. Rumours say this is the only day of the year on which you can find most of the riders in the pubs after the race.

As a result, the 177 km race was conducted at high speed (47+ km/h), with the 1-2 going to Steven de Jongh and his Rabobank colleague, Aart Vierhouten. In third place was Mapei's Wilfried Peeters, followed by Kurt Van De Wouwer (Lotto) and Jans Koerts (Farm Frites).
