PreviewThe 19th edition of the International Hessen Rundfahrt is the last major German race on the calendar, and many will be using it as preparation for the World's next week. Despite the absence of the Telekom team who will race in Paris-Tours on Sunday, the 19 enrolled squads are full of top riders and the tour has been upgraded to 2.4 from last year. Last year's winner, Jens Zemke will be there with his Nürnberger team to support him, but there will be strong challenges from riders like Axel Merckx and Max van Heeswijk (both Mapei), Jean-Cyril Robin (Bonjour), Michael Rich and Tobias Steinhauser (Gerolsteiner), as well as the world record breaking German track team (Robert Bartko, Guido Fulst, Daniel Becke, and Jens Lehmann). The race is over five days and is 850 kilometres in length, with a 29 kilometre time trial as the penultimate stage in Marburg.
