Nuttli upstages favourites
Swiss rider, Jean Nuttli (Phonak) won the last major French race of
the season, the 48.3 kilometre Chrono des Herbiers time trial. Nuttli
beat World Champion, Serhiy Honchar (Liquigas) by nearly a minute, with
World's bronze medallist, Laszlo Bodogri (Mapei) taking third just in
front of Credit Agricole's Frédéric Finot. With this victory, Nuttli
broke Honchar's three year winning streak.
In a small surprise, Olympic champion Vjatcheslav Ekimov (US Postal)
could do no better than 10th, despite having kept in shape on the Spanish
criterium circuit.
The women's 38.5 kilometre event was won by Jeannie Longo, who finished
a minute quicker than Géraldine Loewenguth, with Maryline Salvetat third
at 2:58, and Junior World Champion, Juliette Vandekerckove fourth at
4:07.
