Day 1 - November 27

No surprises with Risi/Betschart on top

When the racing finally finished in the early hours of the morning in the Zürcher Hallenstadion, there were six teams in the lead on the same lap. After winning the first madison of the evening, Swiss pair Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart (who are together with Markus Zberg as their road man), found themselves at the top of the standings with 65 points. They lead the formidable combination of Scott McGrory and Matthew Gilmore, the latter being 'fresh' from his win in Gent. If you call driving for five hours to get to Switerland a good way to freshen up...

World Champions Erik Weisspfennig/Stephan Steinweg are next, equal with Juan Llaneras/Adriano Baffi, with Madsen/Braikia and Martinello/Villa the other two teams on the same lap.

In the stayers competition, the leader after the first stage is Swiss Felice Puttini who averaged just under 64 km/h for the 20 km behind his pacer, Robert Puttini. Notable finishers down the rankings were Hanskurt Brand (5th) and Carsten Podlesch (6th) who clearly weren't at their best tonight.

Finally, in the amateur competition, Six Jours de l'Avenir, another Swiss pair leads: Patrick Fäh and Patrick Kraus. They won the first stage, a 30 kilometre madison in front of Ryan Miller (USA)/Sven Epple (Ger) and French couple Benoît Genauzeau/Julien Tejada.
