Jelajah Malaysia (Tour of Malaysia) - 2.6Malaysia, November 5-12 November 2000Stage 3 - November 7: Ipoh to Tanjung Malim, 123kmReportChyla keeps yellow jersey The National Sports Council's Jamil Kadiron pulled off an outstanding--and surprise--victory in the Tour of Malaysia 2000 when he took Stage Three here yesterday. Jamil, Malaysia's track time-trial specialist, used his sprinting skills well to reach the finish line first in the race from Ipoh to Tanjung Malim, over a distance of 123km. The 23-year-old Jamil put up a brilliant sprint in the final lap of a massed bunch to take the chequered flag ahead of Uzbekistan's Damir Iratov by half a wheel with Iranian Seyed Moazzedin Seyed Rezaeu coming in a close third. The trio clocked 2.47.29 in a mixed flat and rolling route from Ipoh to Tanjung Malim. "Actually. I didn't expect to win because when I joined the leading group in the final 10km to the finishing line, I was only hoping to finish among the top five, " said Jamil. "With about 20m left, I started attacking and my victory today is somehow due to luck as Iratov was ahead of me. He (Iratov) didn't realise that I was close behind him on the left. "I pushed myself to a maximum in the final sprint,'' said Jamil, who last tasted victory in the Police Friendly Tour last April, winning Stage Three from Kota Baru to Grik. Rafael Chyla of Dutch amateur outfit, Village International (VI) Peddler retained the yellow jersey as the overall leader followed by Suhaimi Keton of Kuala Lumpur. Matnur Matnur of Indonesia is third overall. Chyla and Suhaimi were timed at 7'34.52 overall after Stage Three while Matnur recorded a total time of 7'35.25s. Chyla's teammate Peep Mikli will still be wearing the green jersey as the overall sprint leader while Suhaimi kept the red jersey as the best local rider. Indonesia kept top spot in the team overall classification overhauled VI Peddler to take second place. Jamil's victory also put him as the best local finisher in yesterday's race followed by Faizul Izuan Abdul Rahman of Gemilang-Malaysia and Mohd Mahazir Hamad of Selangor. Both Faizul Izuan and Mohd Mahazir clocked the same time set by Jamil.
