Michael Sandstød wins Danish classic

After 39 solo kilometres Michael Sandstød, Memorycard Jack&Jones, won the Midtbank Grand Prix in Bjarne Riis' home town of Herning. This was Sandstød's second consecutive win in this race. Six day ace Jimmi Madsen won the group sprint for second..

"The spring day on the moor" offered rain as well as sunshine and the infamous parts gravel clad the riders with mud as well as dust.

Sandstød attacked shortly before the finishing three laps with the gravel roads around Herning.

"No one wanted to work in the group so I tried it myself. But it was a long ride", smiled Sandstød after the race. He thanked his team mate Arvis Piziks who disturbed the following group enough for Sandstød to reach the finish 50 seconds ahead.

Jimmi Madsen wasn't either fond of the company in the group and tried an escape towards the end. He was caught though at only three kms from the finish but still managed to attack again in the last kilometre, this time holding on to it with a couple of bike lengths.
