German Stefan Steinweg came in second while Matt Gilmore in third was a lap behind. Madsen did not have a good start. In the qualifying heat, his pacing machine broke and he had to start the final in seventh and last position. He and Walrave worked themselves upwards in the field and were in the lead about halfway. Then it was a question of keeping control. The Dane regards this race as an important measure for the Olympics, where he will participate in the Madison with Jakob Piil. One of them will also ride the points race. "The Olympics is the only thing that counts this year. This Championship is not that important, I haven't done any special training but my strength from road training was decisive," said the champion who rode the race on high gears.
