Men's Elite Road, May 28, 2000

In the Elite road race on Sunday it was Minolta's Simon Kessler, who won for the second time in 3 years. A break of 9 riders formed after 30km, containing 3 riders from the Minolta team. Favourite Robert Hunter was closely marked (to their detriment) by the HSBC team.

With 40km to go, the gap to the peleton had grown to 5 minutes. After numerous attacks by David George on the last climb, Kessler launched a counter attack from Ryan Cox and succeeded in getting away from the 5 riders as they crested the hill, 6km from the finish.

Ryan Cox was relegated to 4th place after drifting across Wentzel's line in the sprint.
