Khancoban to Cabramurra Map

This stage is 110 kilometers, with a catagory 2 climb at the halfway point and a catagory 1 climb at the finish. There are plenty of uncategorized climbs in between. The cyclists are faced with heat, steep climbs, tricky descents, gravel roads and lots of hills. They will have to contend with the dreaded "pick a plank" bridges, where the planks are parallel to the road, each of which are about 8-10 inches wide and separated by gaps just wide enough for a tyre to get stuck in!

There is a 5km catagory 2 climb about 50km into the race and a steep climb just before it. To attack here is quite difficult - especially this early in the season and a rider would need a lot of power to stay away for the rest of the stage. However, expect a lot of people to be shelled at this point.

At about 80km the racers come across a technical descent of approxamitely 5km. This is where quite a few riders in the past have crashed or ended up in the ditch!

The riders will have to face a finish which is known to be a wickedly steep climb and yet another place where attacks are not popular, however they will occur. Riders usually maintain a steady tempo, and it's more a war of attrition to see who finishes in the front group at the end. It runs for approximately 7kms and ends about 5kms from the finish. This last part is quite tough, and the riders will have to push themselves to sprint the last 50m of the race.
