Although he is marginally quicker, Neiwand has always been the master of tactics but this did not help him tonight when Eadie got under his guard in successive rides. Afterwards, Eadie said that his being left out of last year's Australian team caused him to focus a little more, with the result being his victory tonight. He now is pushing for one of the two Australian sprint positions, competing with Neiwand, Hill (who is now in Japan to ride the Keirin series) and Dajka who won the bronze medal tonight. The full track team will be announced Monday after the nationals conclude, and Eadie will be hoping for a position there to start his Olympic campaign. Lead out man, Brett Aitken pulled his foot, forcing Luke Roberts to do a one and a half lap turn - something that he was no quite prepared for. Aitken chased and got on, but the momentum was lost and they were beaten by both Victoria and NSW for the final. They did win the bronze as some consolation, with NSW (Brown, Davis, Wooldridge, and Dawson) easily taking the final. Higginson has been twice beaten by Ferris at the Nationals in the preceding days, and needed this win to help regain some confidence. There are two Olympic positions in the TT, and they will likely go to Higginson and Ferris. The sprint position is up for grabs, with Ferris having the edge there at the moment. Higginson has another card to play in Sunday's points race, where she will go against Sandra Smith to try and win a place there.
