Milano - Busseto

Italy, March 25, 2000

Milano - Busseto is an Under 23 race and actually starts in Cremona and finishes in Busseto after some hilly circuits near Fiorenzuola. After a flat first 50km Scott Davis crashed on the run to the first climb of the day. His brother Allan gave him his bike and he chased back, but Allan had to wait for the spare and didn't regain the bunch. The field split to pieces on the hilly circuit with Michael Rogers and Baden Cooke making the front group of around 40. With 7 km remaining Baden punctured and had to chase hard to regain the group before the finish. Michael got him to the front in the sprint but the chase had taken too much out of him and he finished 17th. The race was won by Christian Parrinello from Sintofarm.

GP Artigiani

Italy, March 26, 2000

Sunday's GP Artigiani (Elite/Under 23) was held over a course which started on a flattish, fast circuit then moved to a tough circuit after 50km. The day was cold and showery. A big crash after 40km claimed around 10 riders including Baden Cooke and Daniel Mackey, who both required treatment by the ambulance but were OK, and Brad Davidson, riding for Team Brunero. Brad was able to regain the field but later withdrew.

Allan Davis and Nic Brown were both delayed by the crash and neither were able to regain the field. Ben Godridge lasted with the diminishing front group until 50km from the finish while Michael Rogers and Scott Davis got to 30km from the finish before sucumbing to the frantic pace. The race was won well by Roberto Savoldi from Gaverina.

Solano Beach Classic

Solano Beach, USA, March 23-26, 2000

By John Alsedek, cyclingnews.com correspondent

With a 20-second lead garnered in the opening 12.2-mile time trial, the backing of his Shaklee teammates, and just two flat stages remaining, all race leader Eric Wohlberg had to do was maintain the status quo. He did just that, letting Saturn riders Antonio Cruz and Trent Klasna take the sprint finishes, while he retained his lead over eventual second place finisher Steve Hegg (Jelly Belly). Adham Sbeih of Navigators finished third at 0:22.
