Portuguese rider, José Azevedo, of the Maia/MSS team managed to win the overall of the Grande Premio Portugal Telecom through a strong performance in the last stage. Although the 23.3 uphill time trial stage was won by Spaniard, José Martinez (Euskaltel), Avezedo had enough of an advantage to just beat Martinez by 3 seconds, and former race leader Aitor Osa by 33 seconds.

The Portuguese team Maia/MSS continued their good form that they showed in the recent Tour of Algarve, and their depth helped Azevedo to victory. There is a gap now until the next major Portuguese race, the GP Mitsubishi from April 20-22.
