Voigt in the closing laps

German rider, Jens Voigt of the Credit Agricole team won the 200 km Cholet - Pays Loire today, the third round of the Coupe de France. He now is equal second on the overall standings, one point behind leader Laurent Brochard (Jean Delatour).

Although favourites Frank Vandenbroucke and Jaan Kirsipuu were due to start, they did not, possibly suffering from the after effects of Milan San Ramo where they finished in the bottom quarter of the field.

David Delrieu (Ag2R Prevoyance) and Stéphane Berges (Big Mat Auber 93) made an early attack, leading over eight out of the ten climbs along the way. Eventually they were caught, due to the efforts of Bonjour and Laurent Brochard's Jean Delatour team. François Simon (Bonjour) and Cyril Saugrain (La Francaise des Jeux) made turns in attacking, but in the end it was Voigt who made the decisive move on the first of three of the finishing circuits.

He managed to win, marginally in front of Cofidis' David Moncoutié, with Palmans rider, Hendrick van Dyjck taking third place and the bunch sprint.
