Preview

Favourites in this race are the National Champions of France and Germany, Jeannie Longo Ciprelli and Hanka Kupfernagel. Longo took her 41st and 42 national titles last week end and as usual rode a strong HP Challenge in Idaho. Otherwise she has been a bit uneven the last few seasons. She won the Tour de Bretagne in 1993 and 1995. Kupfernagel has, despite her age, won the race three times, 1992, 1997 and 1998 and in the German championships was superior, eight minutes ahead of the rest. Other favourites include Norwegian Monica Valvik, Judith Arndt (Ger), Anne Samplonious (Can) and Lenka Ilavska (Slk).
