Wendy's International Cycling Classic - NEOhio, USA, July 25-30, 2000Main Page Results Previous stage Stage 5 - July 29: Clintonville Road Race, 105/64 km M/WAndrea Ratkovic's reportGuess who my fellow cycling junkies? Yup, it's me---RAT. Today was suppose to be a 40 mile road race in Clintonville, but the residents weren't up for it, so the race director moved the venue to the COSI (Center Of Science and Industry) in downtown Columbus. It was situated near a park, and it was about 1K around with 4 corners. One corner was off-camber and like 120 degrees, but we had NO CRASHES (yipee!) despite seeing some drizzle near the end of our race. So, there was a 5K run right before our race, and we got to watch a little of that. I thoroughly enjoyed it, of course. My gosh, kids only as tall as my legs were finishing that thing! Okay, okay, you want to hear about the race. Well, all I have to say is AutoTrader.com. Well, that's not all I have to say, but the AutoTrader.com team was by far THE most aggressive team out there. We really wanted something to get away, and we never stopped attacking. It was awesome. I, myself, was off for about 5 laps or so until one of the Saturn Teamwork Challenge laps came up, and I was reeled in by none other than the locomotive from San Diego, Katrina Berger. Yeah, I think she was getting me back for outsprinting her in the Another Dam Race 11-mile mountain climb! My team did a spectacular job blocking while I was away, but half of the corners were very wide, and you can only block so much across 4 lanes. It was windy, and so I got a bit tired out there. Maybe I was tired from all that sprinting last night (yeehaw!). Plus, Katrina is a heckuva time trialist. Pam was away for a little while, and so was Julie. Anke was extremely aggressive, attacking and chasing and just being everywhere it seemed. Tina was totally in there as well, and Marjon was also very active. I know I sound biased, but this is all fact. We heard AutoTrader.com over the loudspeaker so many times. It's just too bad that we couldn't pull it off in the end. Karen Dunne ended up winning followed by Nicole Reinhart and Joanne Kiesanowski. Julie was up there too somewhere, and so was Tina, but I don't know their exact placing--maybe 4th and 6th. I'd like to say that Proctor&Gamble, Odessa Gunn (Timex), and Saturn were all race horses today as well. They were rockin' and rollin' the whole time. Of course, I can't forget Elita. They are on fire folks. So, I tried another Krispy Kreme the other day, and I still was not impressed although, they are fried in vegetable oil which made me feel a tad bit better about eating it. NOT! Anyhow, I think I've figured it out. They stop making fresh doughnuts around 11 am, so I think the key is to go in before then and try one hot out of the oil. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow. Odessa went with me the last time and said they were better than Tim Hortons. For her to say this is a really big deal since she LOVES Tim Hortons. For those of you who don't know, Tim Horton was some big Canadian hockey player and opened these Dunkin Donut-type shops. I've never seen them in the states before, but I just found out Wendy's bought them out, so that's why we're seeing them in Columbus now. It's good that today's race was so early because now I'm going to lay my skinny butt down on the couch and watch movies all day. Ta ta!
