87th Tour de France - Grand Tour

France, July 1 - 23, 2000

Report & results   Previous Stage    Next stage

Stage 7- July 7: Tours - Limoges, 205.5 km

Start time: 12:22
Estimated finish time: 17:16

The Tour heads south into some hillier territory today with this 205 kilometre leg to Limoges. Only one fourth category climb is en-route, but a few sharp humps at the end may split things up a little.

The weather: A partly cloudy morning in Tours in the Place Jean Jaures, where the 7th stage will start in front of the beautiful Hotel de Ville (City Hall). A lot of insiders are expecting Telekom's Alberto Elli to hold onto that yellow jersey for a lot longer than others think. Elli, 36 is extremely capable in the mountains, and unless a breakaway succeeds like yesterday, it's his party.

One rider who won't be partying is Credit Agricole's Stuart O'Grady, who crashed out of the Tour yesterday with a broken collarbone. Depending on the prognosis, the French team's fast man may be out for 6-8 weeks. Although his Tour is over, this might give him additional motivation for the Olympic Games road race, where he would be considered amonst the favourites.
