87th Tour de France - Grand Tour

France, July 1 - 23, 2000

Report & Results   Previous Stage    Next stage

Stage 17- July 19: Evian-Les-Bains - Lausanne, 155 km

Start time: 13:34
Estimated finish time: 17:15

A lovely ride around Lac Leman and a roll through le Pays d'Enhaut and the Gruyere region will end in the home of the International Olympic Committee, Lausanne Switzerland. Not so hard nor so long, Stage 17 may only offer suprises on the final steep cat 3 hill Cote de Lausanne, 7km to go.

Pantani out with stomach bug

Marco Pantani, winner of two stages in this year's Tour de France announced that he would not be participating in today's 155 km stage from Evian-Les-Bains to Lausanne. The Pirate suffered yesterday during the stage from Courchevel to Morzine, eventually losing over 13 minutes to winner, Richard Virenque. The reason he claimed was a stomach complaint.

He feels like he has had a good Tour, but felt he overdid it yesterday at the foot of the last climb, and rode tempo. Pantani has now shed himself of his devils, but he felt that the old Pantani could have won that stage.

Difficulties

Km 54.0 - Col des Mosses - 17.9 km climb at 5.6% (Cat. 2)
Km 148.0 - Côte de Lausanne - 2.4 km climb at 4.6% (Cat. 3)
