Danish rider Lars Michaelsen (Française des Jeux) won the 2000 edition
of the GP Rik Van Steenbergen, named after the great Belgian rider.
Michaelsen was the fastest of an eight man top group, containing the
likes of Dave Bruylandts (Palmans), Wim Omloop (Bankgiroloterij-Batavus),
Matthé Pronk, Bram De Groot (Rabobank), Robert Hunter (Lampre), Andreas
Klier (Farm Frites) and Jan Schaffrath (Telekom). Matthé Pronk and Robert
Hunter were second and third respectively.
Only 10 riders were actually classified as finishers after the main
peloton were more than 16 minutes behind.
