Port Talbot - Wales, July 9, 2000

In a race held over some of Wales most challenging roads, as used in both the Milk Race and The Pru Tour, Antony Malarczyk from the Real Cost Cars/Stephen Roche Cycles team, had one of his biggest wins to date over a classy field that included national champion John Tanner and Matt Stephens from the Linda McCartney squad.

Tour of Hertfordshire

Herford, UK, July 9, 2000

Garry Dodd wins a popular Tour of Hertfordshire

A field of more than 100 riders took part in a rather wet and fast Tour of Hertfordshire. With police outriders stopping on coming traffic on the rolling roads, the circuit for the race was ideal for a classic event and so it proved with Garry Dodd winning a sprint from a group of around 10 riders who had dominated the latter part of the race on the small finishing circuit.

The most notable thing about the race though were the number of punctures and a fall on the dual carriageway. I didn't see the fall which means it must have happened a fair way down the bunch (I never managed to make my way too close to the front) but I did see quite a few hands going up in the air as the wet roads caused quite a few punctures. For those that had the legs though, the following convoy was quite lengthy and helped a few riders get back into the group.
