Polish Climber's ChampionshipsUstrzyki Dolne, Poland, July 23, 2000 The Polish climber's championships were held on Sunday July 23 around Ustrzyki Dolne in the Bieszczady region (far southeastern Poland). In the past, the Polish have had five different kind of Championships: Road Race, Individual Time Trial, Climber's Road Race, Dual Time Trials and Team Time Trials (4-men). The last race (TTT) has been dropped, and the Road Race and Individual Time Trials were held in June. The Dual TT will be on 24 September in Koronowo near Bydgoszcz. The elite climber's race was won by MAT Ceresit's Tomasz Kloczko, who averaged 38.5 km/h on the hilly couse. He beat Jaroslaw Rebiewski (Legia Bazyliszek) and Mariusz Bilewski (MAT Ceresit CCC) by a handful of seconds. Absent were most of the powerful Mroz team, who had sent their 'A' squad to Portugal for the Volta. The under-23 race was won by Zbigniew Wyrzykowski from the division III Servisco team. Wyrzykowski is probably Poland's most talented espoir at the moment or at least their most universal rider in this category: best climber, 2nd in the ITT, as well as top 10 in Road Race. He's also good sprinter, and has some World Cup track experience (points race). For some of these U23 riders it was vital test before European U-23 Championships, that are to be held soon next month (August 3 = Time Trial and August 5 = Road Race) in Miedziana Gora near Kielce in their home country!
