Pumar wins in a break

Venezuelan Omar Pumar has won the ninth stage of the Vuelta a Táchira, increasing the domination of the Táchira lottery team. Teammate and compatriot, Noel Vásquez retained the yellow jersey.

In a 144 km circuit race around San Cristóbal, the cyclists averaged 40.092 km per hour, before more than 150,000 spectators. Pumar was part of a breakway containing 4 riders, but they dropped Italian Francesco Pasquinni on the last climb, and he was nearly caught by the bunch.
