Night 1 - January 13, 2000

The racing in Bremen got underway on the first night with a huge crowd of 19,000 spectators. Last year's winners, Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart of Switzerland showed their keenness to do it once again when they hit the lead after night one. However, this is going to be hard to maintain, as there are many teams capable of winning this race.

Australian-Danish duo of Scott McGrory and Jimmi Madsen won the first chase, while Villa and Baffi (Ita) won the second. The much out of form world madison champions, Llaneras and Galvez (Spa) showed they were in with a shout as well, taking 40 points and joining the leaders one lap in front.
