Venezuelan Hussein Monsalve won the sixth stage (160 km) of the Vuelta Ciclista Independencia Nacional, in a solo breakaway. He finished in front of Guillermo Chaparro (Mauricio Báez) and Milton Navier from Honduras. He also took two of the intermediate sprints along the way.

Although race leader, Alexis Méndez arrived just behind the breakaway in fourth, he still maintained his leaders jersey with the more mountainous stages to come.
