Sorrento Cyclo-cross

San Diego, California, December 10, 2000

The San Diego Bicycle Club's 22nd Annual Sorrento Cyclo-cross featured notable cross-over athletes Scott Tinley (Ironman triathlon champion) and Johnny O'Mara (motocross megastar). Local cross legend Brent Prenzlow (TCB/Steelman Cycles) showed them how the sport of cyclo-cross is supposed to look, winning the hotly contested A race over Trent Klasna (Saturn) in spite of two punctures. Fortunately, Prenzlow's prizes happened to include a pair of TUFO cross tubulars identical to the tires he was racing on. He'll be riding them in the US National Cyclocross Championships next week as the bright hope of the up and coming San Diego cyclo-cross scene. Brent also received his own personal 15 seconds of fame, the result of regional CBS television network evening news coverage of his win at the Sorrento Cyclo-cross.
