Niño takes the first leader's jersey
By Haroldo Camacho
The RCN Classic began on Friday with a 5.4 km prologue time trial, won by Libardo Niño of Aguardiente Néctar (the Colombian complement of the Selle Italia Colombian venture). Raúl Montaña of the same team registered the second best time, at one second behind Niño. Duván Ramírez and Javier Zapata were Orbitel 05's best answer to the two Nectar riders each at two seconds behind Niño.
Aguardiente Néctar is eager to neutralize Orbitel's dominance taken in the Vuelta back in June. Duván Ramírez' appraisal of the results is that it's going to be a battle between the two teams. "Depending on how breakfast turns out, you can already tell what lunch is going to be like, that's what the old folks used to say", he quipped.
Iván Palacio, winner of the Vuelta, lost 20 seconds in the Prologue.
