GP Féminine International du Québec - 2.9.2Canada, August 23-27, 2000Main Page Results Previous stage Stage 3 - August 25: Richford (USA) - Lac Brome, 99 kmBessette wins, but it's not enoughCanada's Lyne Bessette won the tough stage three of the GP Feminine du Quebec after she outsprinted three other breakaway mates who had attacked with 15 kilometres to go in the 99 kilometre stage. In second and third were two British riders: 17 year old Nicole Cooke (Wales) and the not quite as young Ceris Gilfillan (British National). The other member of the break that finished 49 seconds in front of the bunch was a certain J. Longo. Overall, Bessette closed to within 16 seconds of race leader, Sara Symington and may make some more impression in the remaining three stages. However, despite missing the break today, Symington is a good time trialist and could turn the tables in tomorrow's early stage. Jeannie Longo was the principal attacker in the stage today, riding some 40 kilometres solo in front and reaching a lead of 1'15 before the bunch began to close. The Canadians were strong in the chase and a group of 9 eventually caught her. This was reduced to four with 15 kilometres to go, however Longo was still there.
