Martín Perdiguero in
a two up
Miguel Angel Martín Perdiguero (Vitalicio Seguros) won the 198 kilometre
GP Llodio after he beat Aitor González (Kelme) in a two up sprint. Another
Kelme rider, Ricardo Otxoa took third. Vitalicio also won the sprints
classification (Ramon Medina) and the Mountains and Metas Volantes prizes
(both to Perdiguero), after they completely dominated the race.
Vitalicio were aggressive from the outset, and there was a decisive
split after just 10 kilometres. 28 riders made the front, with Vitalicio
placing several men in the lead. Martín Perdiguero was looking quite
strong, and attacked with Aitor González, who almost dropped him on
the final climb of the Alto de Malkuartu, with just four kilometres
to go. However, Martin Perdiguero held on and was clearly the better
sprinter. Ricardo Otxoa led the bunch home a minute and ten seconds
behind.
Afterward, Martin Perdiguero reaffirmed his latter season plans, saying
that he will not be riding the Vuelta but will aim for the Olympic Games
and the World's.
