He finished solo in Le Grand Bornand with a 1'07 advantage to Sven Montgomery (FdJ) and David Moncoutie (Cofidis), the latter taking over the overall lead ahead of Mapei's Laszlo Bodrogi. In the first kilometre of the stage, a group of 15 riders attacked including Kintana. After more than 100 kilometres of the 150 to be covered, the peloton caught the group. However, just prior to this, five split off in a new attack: Nocentini, Loder, Tessier, Martin and Kintana reached the base of the Col du Marais with more than 2 minutes. At about 25 kiloemtres to go, Kintana made his last and decisive attack, riding away from the other four with great power. Yesterday's stage winner, David Moncoutie, came up to the four with Montgomery, Martin and Flores and tried bridge to Kintana, without result. Moncoutie became the new leader, having just 4 seconds on Bodrogi who finished 21st, 4'05 down today.
