Quaranta comes back

Winner of two stages in this year's Tour de Langkawi, Mobilvetta's Ivan Quaranta made a return to the victory dais today with a sprint win in stage 3 of the Settimana Ciclista Lombarda. He beat compatriot Marco Zanotti (Liqugas) and Slovenia's Zoran Klemencic (Vini Caldirola) in a standard bunch sprint, with Mario Cipollini (Saeco) in fourth.

The only notable move during the stage came from Charles Guilbert (Bonjour) and Daniele Righi (Alexia) who were away for 45 kilometres before being caught, after a maximum lead of just one minute.

Afterwards, Quaranta remarked that it was a good test for him in preparation for next month's Giro d'Italia, where he will be up against some of the World's best speedsters who will be in better form for that race.

Ukranian, Sergei Gontchar (Vini Caldirola) retained the leader's jersey that he gained yesterday.
