The Belgian Marc Wauters of Rabobank defended his yellow jersey on the second day of the Internationale Rheinland-Pfalz-Rad-Rundfahrt in Germany.
The morning's 96.5 kms road race from Koblenz to Bad Marienberg saw 24 year old Australian Peter Rogers win by splitting a group of seven riders. He was fifteen seconds ahead of Sweden's Martin Rittsel and his German team mate Ronny Lauke.
The afternoon's 17 km individual time trial saw Erik Dekker win by 15 seconds to Wauters, which puts him only seven seconds behind in the GC.
Torsten Smchidt wears the orange mountains jersey and Stefan Steinweg the sprinter's jersey in white with red dots (they do things differently in Germany).

Preview.
Highlights of the Rheinland-Pfalz-Rad-Rundfahrt will be the ITT on the second day at Bad Marienberg, the fourth stage with a 20 percent climb at Erdinger Eller an der Mosel and the fifth stage with its 252 kms from Bitburg to Zweibrücken.
Twenty teams will participate, among them Rabobank with GP Eddy Merckx winners Erik Dekker and Marc Wauters who will be the favourites here. Several previous winners will participate. Bert Dietz and Jörs Reuss of Nürnberger won in 1993 and 1995 respectively. Reuss won the Tour of Saxony a couple of weeks ago. Other favourites. German Torsten Schmidt, last year's third Norwegian Steffen Kjaergaard and his compatriot Svein Gaute Hølestøl, second in 1995, all of them from Danish foreign legion Team Chicky World.
Sprinters to look out for in this edition. Andreas Kappes, Olaf Pollack, Sascha Henrix, Raphael Schweda, Holger Sievers and Cologne's Dutchman Jan Koerts.
During this year's race there will also be a campaign for the earth quake victims of Turkey since the Rheinland Pfalz Red Cross runs two field hospitals in the disaster stricken area.
In an early attack fourteen riders went off in Targa Crocifisso. Swedish neo-pro Esa Rosendahl attacked with a couple of kms to go but was caught at 500 meters. Italian elite rider Eddy Serri took the sprint in Polignano a Mare. The peloton came in at 4:53.
